Title	Notice of Modification to the List of permitted supplemental ingredients to permit the use of green tea extract (EGCG/catechins) as a supplemental ingredient in foods
Summary	The Notice of Health Canada's proposal to enable the use of green tea extract (EGCG/catechins) as a supplemental ingredient in foods was published on 28 July 2022, and was open to the public for comment for 75 days. No new scientific information that changes the outcome of the safety assessment was submitted in response to this Notice of Proposal. Since the conclusions of the assessment remain as described in the Notice of Proposal, Health Canada has permitted the supplemental use of green tea extract (EGCG/catechins) by adding the entry shown in the table to Part IV of the List of Permitted Supplemental Ingredients. The above modification came into force 11 January 2024, the day it was published in the List of Permitted Supplemental Ingredients. Health Canada's Food and Nutrition Directorate identified that certain terms and wording used in the green tea extract entry (Part IV: Other supplemental ingredients, G.1) published in the French version of the List of Permitted Supplemental Ingredients on 11 January 2024, are not an accurate translation of the English version and do not align with French terminology in similar entries. One minor editorial error was also identified for the vitamin A (beta-carotene, retinol) entries. Health Canada has promptly addressed the translation inconsistencies in French. Health Canada's Food and Nutrition Directorate is committed to reviewing new scientific information on the safety in use of any permitted supplemental ingredient, including green tea extract (EGCG/catechins). Anyone wishing to submit an inquiry or new scientific information on the use of any permitted supplemental ingredient may do so in writing, by regular mail or electronically.
