The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) notified Members on 25 June 2019 (G/SPS/N/CAN/1084/Rev.1) of a public consultation on proposed regulations on the labelling of pre-packaged food destined for sale in Canada. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, CFIA adjusted the initiative, now called Food Product Innovation, to only include the:
− Repeal of some standard container sizes;
− Incorporation by reference of remaining standard container sizes;
− Incorporation by reference of class names;
− Updated definition of test market food;
− Harmonized and streamlined food commodity-specific labelling requirements.
These regulatory changes will not require any changes to food labels. In addition, these changes will not affect the level of inspection, what is inspected or how food labels are inspected.
These changes entered into force on 6 July 2022.
This addendum concern: Notification of adoption, publication or entry into force of regulation
