Proposed amendments to the labelling standards for livestock products |
Summary |
The regulation for the labelling of livestock products has been revised in order to simplify the labelling method and to prevent any confusion among operators.
The following indicates the proposed amendments:
1. Introduction of mandatory labelling of meat content in meat processing products (ham, sausage, etc.);
2. Clarification of the labelling method for frozen products and refrigerated products:
- Introduction of mandatory labelling of frozen products or refrigerated products on the principal display panel;
3. Introduction of exceptional clauses for the labelling requirement:
- When a product is directly supplied to a chain store (not to the final consumer) with the labelling information provided through the point of sale system, the information for labelling can be omitted;
4. Adjustment of standards in order to be harmonized with the Labelling Standards for foods:
- Clarification of display panel as principal display panel and information display panel by defining their terms;
- Requirement for a font size of 10 or greater to be used when displaying labelling information;
- Permitted use of weight or volume units regardless of solid or liquid contents;
- For the labelling of imported livestock, it is permitted to use labelling according to Korean orthography principles of foreign languages.
