Import restrictions on pistachios and pistachio products from the Islamic Republic of Iran and changes to Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements for Import of pistachios and pistachio products from other origins. |
Tóm tắt |
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is the competent authority responsible for establishing, implementing, and enforcing Canada's import requirements for food products.
-
Imported pistachios and pistachio-containing products originating from the Islamic Republic of Iran are currently implicated in several illnesses (https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/public-health- notices/2025/outbreak-salmonella-infections-pistachios-related-products.html) and recalls (https://inspection.canada.ca/en/inspection-and-enforcement/food-safety- investigations/pistachio-recall-salmonella) in Canada due to contamination with Salmonella.
-
Temporary Import Restriction for products from Islamic Republic of Iran.
Effective 27 September 2025, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will refuse entry of pistachios and pistachio products originating from the Islamic Republic of Iran that are exported on or after this date. Shipments exported prior to this date and currently in transit will be subject to hold-and-test requirements before being released into commerce. This will be reflected in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Automated Import Reference System (AIRS).
Licence Condition for products from all other origins
o The Canadian Food Inspection Agency will implement a condition under the Safe
Food for Canadians licence for all shipments of pistachios and pistachio products originating from all countries other than the Islamic Republic of Iran. The licence condition will have two elements:
Importers will have to provide a proof of origin demonstrating non-Iranian
origin of the shipment; OR
If a proof of origin is not provided, the shipment will be subject to the hold and
test requirements.
These measures will remain in place while the Canadian Food Inspection Agency analyzes information from its ongoing food safety investigations, surveillance and inspections of importers.
